Tree Hugger…Ode To An Oak

I love this tree, leaf-blades
spreading the green umbrella it’s made
above me, filtering sunlight,
lending dappled shade.

Sometimes, I wrap
my arms around it,
wanting such solidity
as part of me.
Rough bark grazes my cheek,
my fingers seek
the lichen in each crack.

This ancient oak must
live here, even as I.
I know it will still stand high,
when I am dust.
